In-Season Maintenance

As usual, I don't get to the gym to lift quite as often during the season. I assume this is similar for most ultimate players. In anycase the last workout with Andy I felt a bit weak in terms of lower back strength, so I asked Andy about some in-season core stuff that you can do. Here's what he had to offer in for in-season maintenance:

Before/During/After Practice

1. Dynamic warm-ups (leg swings, scorpions, body twists, air squats, glute bridges) to make sure you are properly ready for practices/games.

2. Take the time to stretch after practice.

Outside of Practice

3. Core (weightless):
  • 1 minute each of Front/Side/Back planks
  • 2 sets of alternate single arm and leg supermans
  • weightless good mornings (note the link has a guy using weights, just do what he's doing, without weights).
4. Ensure proper posture when sitting at work and get out of the work chair as often as possible.

*note: I would imagine that some abwork would be good to add to the core circuit in most cases, but was not suggested given the lower-back focus I had.
